Microsoft PowerPoint Web App


A) CREATE NEW DOCUMENT


1) Login to skydrive.com using outlook.com or hotmail.com credentials.

2) Create a new PowerPoint presentation.

3) A PowerPoint application page is displayed in browser window.


4) Add title and subtitle.



B) CHOOSING A THEME

5) Click Design Tab.



5.1) Click the Drop Down list to view more themes.

5.2) Select Wisp theme.


5.3) The slide is redesigned with Wisp theme.


6) Select Theme variant.

6.1) Go to variant section and choose Variant 3.


6.2) The slide is redesigned with the Variant 3 of Wisp theme.




C) ADDING SLIDES


7) Add new slide

7.1) Go to Slide navigator panel. Right-hand click and select New Slide.


7.2) Add texts to the slide.
Use Tab key to indent the texts to the right.



D) RE-SELECTING THEME


8) Theme can be re-selected at anytime.

8.1) Go to Design Tab.
Select Organic theme.



E) CONTINUE EDITING


9) Add some more texts to the slide.



F) NOTES PANEL


10) Click on the Notes button at the bottom right of the application window.
The Notes panel is displayed.
To hide the Notes panel, click the Notes button once again.


11) Add notes:

A blog writer may publish either a post or a page. In most of the cases, the blog writer publishes a post. However, the blog writer may need a static content to display his profile information. This type of content is called a page.



G) SLIDE LAYOUT


13) Add New Slide.


14) Change Layout.



15) Choose Blank.
Click Change Layout.



H) ADDING IMAGE


16) We are going to add an Internet image.

16.1) Copy the following URL, http://img716.imageshack.us/img716/4361/090056e1e6494b78b045ccf.png .


16.2) Go to Insert Tab.
Click Picture.



16.3) Paste the URL in the Upload dialog window.
Click Open.


16.4) Wait.


16.5) The image appears at the center of the slide.


16.6) Resize the image to fit the slide nicely.



I) RUNNING SLIDESHOW

17) Locate the Slideshow button at the bottom right of the application window.
Click to run slideshow.


18) Slideshow mode is displayed in the browser window.


19) Click Start Slide Show


20) The slide fills up the entire browser window.

Microsoft Excel Survey Web App

This tutorial guides the reader to use Microsoft Excel Web App. In this tutorial, we will be creating an Excel survey called 'social-media-survey'.


A) CREATING NEW DOCUMENT


1) Browse the url http://skydrive.live.comYou need to log in using your outlook.com or hotmail.com credential in order to access this page.

Click Create/Excel Survey.



2) Type the name of the workbook, social-media-survey.



B) SURVEY DIALOG WINDOW


3) A New Survey dialog window pops up.

3.1) Type the survey title.


3.2) Type the description.


3.3) Type the first question.
Click Done.



3.4) Click Add Second Question.
Click Done.



3.5) Click Add Third Question.
Click Done.


3.6) Click Add Fourth Question.
Click Done.


3.7) Click Add Fifth Question.
Click Done.



C) PREVIEW SURVEY


4) Click Save and View.


5) Preview the survey.



6) Click Share Survey.


7) A Create Link dialog window pops up.
Click Create.




8) Link is created.
Click Done.



D) EXCEL SURVEY TABLE


9) After Survey Dialog window is closed, you are back to Excel workbook.


10) In case, you forget the Survey link, you can always click on the Drop Down list at the Survey command button.
Click Share Survey.



10.1) The Shared Link is displayed again.
e.g. https://skydrive.live.com/redir?page=survey&resid=435522147A41518C!386&authkey=!AOXaSszqNUPTiKo



10.2) Click Shorten.
The link is shortened now, e.g. http://sdrv.ms/10LdsYj


10.3) Browse the shortened URL, e.g. http://sdrv.ms/10LdsYj
The address redirects back to the original URL.



E) MODIFYING SURVEY

11) Click the Drop Down list at the Survey command button.
Choose Edit Survey.


12) Click Add New Question.



13) Download sample text file  from https://sites.google.com/site/notaskydrive/home/beginner/social-media-test.txt?attredirects=0&d=1

14) Add these questions to the Survey dialog window.

15) Publish the survey again.

Microsoft Excel Web App


This tutorial guides the reader to use Microsoft Excel Web App. However, the steps are also applicable to the Desktop version of Microsoft Excel. In this tutorial, we will be creating an Excel document called 'Research-Assessment'.


A) CREATING NEW DOCUMENT


1) If you are using Desktop version of Microsoft Excel, e.g Microsoft Excel 2010, you may skip this step. Browse the url http://skydrive.live.comYou need to log in using your outlook.com or hotmail.com credential in order to access this page.

Click Create/Excel workbook.




2) Type the name of the workbook, social-media-test.





3) The workbook main page is displayed.
The page consists of few parts.



3.1) The top most part contains:
a) The document name.
b) The application name.
c) The application window control.
d) The user log control.




3.2) The second part is contains tabs and their associated command buttons.
Microsoft calls this as 'Ribbon'.
When a new document is created, the application initially displays HOME tab.
HOME tab provides command buttons that you need while editing a workbook.
Command buttons are grouped by sections, i.e Clipboard, Font, Alignment, Number, Tab, Cells, Formulas, Data and Web.



3.3) The next part is the workbook panel.
By default, the first sheet is called Sheet1.



3.4) The bottom most part shows the status of the document.
If you click the Drop Down button besides the word "1 Person Editing", you would see your username.



B) COPY-PASTE DATA

4.1) Download a text file  from https://sites.google.com/site/notaskydrive/home/beginner/social-media-test.txt?attredirects=0&d=1


4.2) If you open the text file using a Notepad program, it looks like below.



4.2 Highlight the texts and copy them ([Ctrl]+[C]).


4.3) Switch to your Research-Assessment workbook, click the Cell A1 and paste ([Ctrl]+[V]).
Notice that on the Row 1 and Row 2, the texts go to specific cells instead of the first cell in the row.


4.4) Actually the texts have been separated by a special character called Tab.



C) COLUMN SIZE

5) You can set the auto width for a column.

5.1) Hover mouse pointer over the column border until pointer icon change to the split icon. Double-click the icon.


5.2) Repeat the steps for other column until you get as follows:
